I became a health and fitness enthusiast at an early age thanks to a very unique 5th grade teacher-Mike Moilanen. Mr Moilanen was likely influenced by Strength & Health magazines published by Bob Hoffman of the York barbell company from 1932 to 1992. He took the time to talk to his students about the benefits of proper nutrition and physical fitness. He also brought in hundreds of Strength & Health Magazines and stacked them on the counter in the back of the classroom.
I found myself looking through these magazines as much as I could. As a ten year old child I was influenced by the principles propagated in Strength & Health magazines relating to physical fitness, nutrition and exercise physiology. I was influenced to such an extent that I named my practice Strength & Health Medical. This influence directly translated into an interest in holistic health care.
Bob Hoffman was a true trainer of champions since 1932 in both the physique and weightlifting realms. All physique and weightlifting contests in North America were organized and sanctioned by him. He was the U.S. national and olympic weight lifting coach for nearly 40 years and was also the inventor of multiple nutritional supplements starting in the 1940's which were sold through his magazines.
